Milan Fashion Week Mens’ saw designers showcase their menswear collections for Autumn/Winter 2017. Extravagant fashion shows were held by top Italian designers such as Prada and Moschino exhibiting their new collections with much anticipation. Milan Fashion Week Mens’ saw a continuation of classic pieces unique to their brand but with updated looks for the new season. In addition, new emerging trends were seen on the runway such as the statement hat and the dependence on fur to create stylish, distinctive pieces. The Belted Coat
The belted coat was a staple feature in the collections of designers a Milan Fashion Week. Salvatore Ferragamo debuted a black suede overcoat with matching robe tie to create a classic piece but with an updated look. Other designer brands such as Prada and Palm Angel took a different approach by pairing their coats with leather belts for a more edgy look.
Fur has been a staple in womenswear collections since its revival which was championed by American Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. However, the much-debated fabric was a popular choice by designers this season. Classic looks were presented by Giorgio Armani by subtly adding fur into the look to create an overall blended look. Other designers such as Moschino and Sunnei favoured a unique, create approach choosing distinctive cuts and bold colours.
Check will be the print of the season come AW17. Featured in many collections, check was incorporated throughout the individual looks. A popular choice for the check print was in classic colours in tones of grey and brown, however, we also saw distinguishing check look in vibrant, eye-catching colours.
The statement hat was a favoured accessory in both menswear and womenswear collections at Milan Fashion Week. FDesigners paired their looks with unique hats creating a unique, urban vibe. Hats varied from bowler hats to berets, with some designers choosing minimal, on-trend styles such as baseball caps and beanies.
The leather jacket, a key item of menswear collections, was paired with tailored looks this season to create biker chic. Opulent looks with the edge and roughness of the leather biker jacket create a high fashion rebel style, perfect for those who want a maintained groom look with a touch of danger.
Hues of green and brown were popular choices on the runway this season. The earthy tonal palette of the looks establishes the militaresque feel to the collections. Military cuts were seen in designs by Dirk Bikkembergs and Moschino who chose structured shirt jackets and bomber jackets in military green with Moschino pairing the look with a beret. Other designers chose camo print for their designs keeping in line with the military colour palette.
